Peapack/Gladstone
The borough of Peapack/Gladstone is quaint and charming. Single family homes, farms and
19th century estates cover hillsides and populate tree-lined streets. With a
population of just 2,100 people, this is a setting befitting the country gentry and in
keeping with this theme, the twin villages are widely known in equestrian circles and as a
hub for fox hunters in the region.
Sprawling Hamilton Farms on Pottersville Road in Gladstone is the site of the US
Equestrian Team where the group trains for international events. Master classes and
competitions are also held here. Peapack is the home of the Essex Hunt Club. In 1983, King
Hassan II purchased the former Ladd estate for $7.5 million in what was then considered
the largest domestic real estate transaction in the history of New Jersey.
A smattering of apartments and some small commercial
establishments, which seem to blend with the flavor of the villages, and restaurants with
fine dining round out the charm of this rather special country habitat.
