Bridgewater
The 32 square miles that are Bridgewater Township scenically span from the hills of the
Watching Mountains to the North and the Raritan River to the South. Six hamlets, each with
its distinct identity, offer a range of lifestyles from country to neighborhood living.
Martinsville with its shop-filled village center offers half-acre to acre lots of
comfortable older homes and spacious new construction. Sunset Lake with its older homes
has a manmade lake at its center. Green Knoll is tree-filled and hilly, with a variety of
homesites. Finderne, Bradley Gardens and Somerville Manor with its modest neighborhoods
provide both single family, town house and apartment dwellings.
An ideal place for outdoor activities and a virtual haven for
fishermen, North Branch Park fronts a mile of the North Branch of the Raritan River.
Picnic groves, softball fields and two horse show rings are also a part of this setting
which doubles every August as the 4-H Fair Grounds. Ornithologists can enjoy hiking and
birdwatching on elevations overlooking Chimney Rock Reservoir.
King George II chartered the township which has grown into an area of over 32,000
residents who place a high priority on education.
