Basking Ridge

Houses, old and new, line quiet tree-lined streets in the colonial semi-rural town of Basking Ridge. Old buildings, which are presently small businesses, line both sides of Finley Avenue, the quaint thoroughfare that runs through the center of the village.

Some of the larger older homes in town even date back to before the revolutionary period. Rumor has it that George Washington picnicked at the white oak tree by the Presbyterian Church, and many Revolutionary War soldiers are buried in the cemetery there. AT&T headquarters may be located in this community, but the center of town lined with brick sidewalks plays host to only small merchants. The main street of the town has no traffic light and still has head-in-parking. A well-stocked library, the Somerset Hills YMCA, the new community center, a nationally recognized Olympic sized public pool, and a 9-hole golf course are just a few of the many activities provided for the local citizenry.

Basking Ridge lies at the northern most point of Somerset County. It boasts Lord Stirling Park with an Environmental Education Center offering information classes and special programs for young people and adults. There is an eight-mile trail system which serves as an outdoor teaching laboratory: riding stables are available for those who enjoy equestrian activities. Their excellent K-12 school system has several elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.

Food shopping is within minutes from any residence in town. Morristown, the Morris County seat and Somerville, the Somerset County seat, have educational, corporate and cultural facilities which are also close by. Two upscale malls are within a twenty-minute drive. Several outstanding New Jersey hospitals serve the town, and private schools and colleges are within neighboring communities.

Offering a real sense of community to the folks who live here, Basking Ridge is known as a wonderful place to live.
